About the book launch at UNESCO
ACTED, in collaboration with the embassy of Uganda in France, organised a reception at UNESCO on June 11th 2009, to launch the book Sustainability in Karamoja? Rethinking the terms of global sustainability in a crisis region of Africa. The photo exhibition "Climate Change has an impact on food security in Karamoja" was presented at the same occasion. All speakers – the ambassador and some representatives from UNESCO, European Commission and ACTED – stressed the importance of raising awareness about a forgotten crisis such as Karamoja and of tackling the negative effects of climate change on local livelihoods. They also explained how their respective institutions are committed to support populations in either Karamoja or Uganda. More than 50 persons attended the events, mostly ambassadors to the UNESCO (Madagascar, Sénégal, Kenya to name a few) and researchers from universities, NGO representatives and members of the Ugandan community in Paris.
The art installation "Caution Border" will be re-enacted in public spaces across Copenhagen, at the occasion of COP 15 (the world summit on climate change), especially attracting attention to climate refugees and other issues linking climate change and borders.
