The Department ‘Distribution and Organization of Arts and Culture’ in Lüneburg carries teaching, research and academic exchanges on topics that occur across the three domains of production, distribution and reception of culture.

The subject is part of the practical orientated minor within the study program ‘Applied Culture Sciences’ at the University of Lüneburg, which was initially installed in the winter semester of 2003/04.

‘Distribution and Organization of Arts and Culture’ in Lüneburg describes and analyses the interdependent environments of the production, distribution and consumption of culture.

Social, political and economic environments influence the contents and forms of culture. In these environments culture is produced, distributed, collected, valued, taught and consumed in various ways.

In March-April 2007, the department hosted the conference of the Arts Research Network of the European Sociological Association. With 5 days of conference and nearly 190 speakers from literally all over the world, the event was a great success and inspired many further moves, including the creation of the current International Network Cultura21.
