Chile Sustentable
The initiative
Chile Sustentable is an initiative of organizations, ecologists, academics, personalities and social leaders of different sectors. It was founded with the objective to initiate the elaboration of a civic initiative concerning a social transformation, politics and economy in Chile that would be based on the criterions of sustainability. In 1997 the programme was initiated by the Institute of Political Ecology, the National Net of Ecological Action (RENACE) and the University Bolivariana. Representatives of these institutions constitute the board of the programme.
Programme Objectives:
- Stimulating an extensive debate and a national agreement on the necessity of creating the project of a sustainable country.
- Activating the effort of an intellectual and social oriented compact that systematizes and quantifies targets and actions in reorienting the Chilean development process.
- Strengthening civic action and sensitizing the political class and the citizenship along the political fundaments for a proposition of sustainability in Chile.
